Volunteers wanted for Type 2 treatment
If you've got Type 2 diabetes, you could be part of a clinical study investigating new treatment to assist with glucose metabolism, with the aim of bringing HbA1c levels down to stable and safe levels. Researchers are looking for volunteers right now to take part in the study.
"The study is looking at new treatment to assist with glucose metabolism. Ideally, the study needs people with Type 2 diabetes in Tauranga or Wellington. This includes those who are diet controlled or who currently take oral medications or are on insulin but still have trouble keeping their diabetes controlled."
If you volunteer for the research, you will first be assessed for suitability. Once that's done, participants are given either a new medication or one already on the market or sometimes a placebo - a dummy medication. Every few weeks, participants visit the research clinic where they are monitored and receive ongoing advice on diabetes care. So, along with the medication, you'll also get extra attention and support.
The researchers comment that all participants on their current studies are happy with the attention and support they receive and see it as a positive to their diabetes and general health. It's a win-win really, you get to help diabetes research and in return you get extra care and support while you're doing it.
So, if you or anyone you know has Type 2 diabetes and uses oral medications only (not insulin), here's your opportunity to take part in what could be really important research.
