Today’s Handy Hint
Our customer helpline team is often asked: Do I have to change the finger pricker every test?
New Zealanders have a reputation for changing lancets less often than almost anyone else. Perhaps it’s trying to save money. But if so, it’s an expensive economy because old, blunt lancets are not only dirty and therefore unhygienic, they also hurt. Really hurt. That’s because the blunter they get, the harder they have to work to get through your poor skin. On top of that, a blunt lancet has jagged edges that rip and tear the skin. That only adds to the hurt.
We’ve heard of people using the same lancet for a year or longer. No wonder they hate doing a blood glucose test. It’s torture getting the blood sample. But with a fresh new lancet, especially the ones in the Accu-Chek Multiclix, they’re amazed at the painless difference. “I never felt a thing,” we hear them say.
So yes, for your own comfort and safety, you are best to change your lancet every time. It’s up to you of course, but that’s our top tip today.
