Never Let a Hypo Fool You Again
Setting Your Hypo Alert

One of the really nifty things you can do with your Accu-Chek Performa meter is set your own hypo alert. At first glance, that may not sound like a big deal. But it’s actually more helpful than you might realise. Here’s why:

  • It can prompt you to take action before a hypo intensifies.
  • It can be more reliable than guess work, especially if you have what’s known as ‘hypo unawareness.’ This is where the usual warning signals are not as noticeable as they used to be. It can happen after years of having diabetes, where the symptoms of a hypo change and you may not recognise them as easily as you used to.
  • It can be especially helpful for friends, colleagues or teachers of a child with diabetes, who may not know what the numbers mean if they are helping you with a test, but will know action is needed when the alarm beeps.

The important thing about the hypo alert on the Accu-Chek Performa is that you and your healthcare professional decide at what level to set it. Everyone is different, and what may be a hypo level for someone else may be fine for you. With this device, you get to say what’s right for you.
