Help a kid in World Diabetes Week
World Diabetes Day is celebrated each year on 14 November. The campaign is led by the International Diabetes Federation and in 2007 it became an official United Nations world day.
DYNZ was established 12 years ago and is affiliated to Diabetes NZ. There are networks of youth support groups located throughout New Zealand that assist DYNZ to provide support to young kiwis coming to terms with diabetes and learning to live full lives whilst managing it.
DYNZ is a strong voice, advocating on behalf of all young people with diabetes. Recent projects have included submissions to Pharmac for medication supply and subsidies (Lantus and Blood Ketone Strips) and involvement with the Ministry of Education for school health guidelines.
DYNZ provides a parent's manual; Caring for Children and Adolescents and a Diabetes Information School Flip Chart. These manuals are now included in all newly diagnosed packs that are distributed throughout the country.

In New Zealand...Diabetes Awareness Week 18-24 November
Here in New Zealand, Diabetes Awareness Week runs from 18 to 24 November, and this year Diabetes New Zealand is using the week to promote healthy choices for all the family. As Diabetes New Zealand notes, a person with diabetes cannot "go it alone". They need the support of the family. One of the best ways that a family can support is through adopting the same healthy choices and practises that the person with diabetes adopts. They hope to increase awareness about diabetes and the healthy choices available for families during the awareness week.
