Health Assessment

Part of staying healthy and managing diabetes is having regular health checks and routine monitoring of complications. Most GP's are now offering free annual checks for people with diabetes, and will include the following tests among other things:

  • Eye screening (with an eye specialist or eye photography) This will be done within the first year of diagnosis for people with Type 2 diabetes and usually after 5 years in people with Type 1

  • Foot check

  • Blood lipids (e.g. Cholesterol)

  • Weight and BMI (body mass index)

  • Kidney function

  • Diabetes management
